I had the chance to assist good friend and fellow photographer Miguel Ramos at a quincenera this evening. I'm from Canada and far from an expert in Mexican culture but from what I understand a quincenera is a coming out party for a 15 year old girl.
Quinceneras are not just simple "sweet 16" parties. They are elaborate affairs on the scale of a wedding. This specific quincenera had a little extra added bonus as it was filmed by MTV and will be part of an upcoming show.
Here is the guest of honor, Dinora, with some of her attendants.
It wasn't until the reception till it became very evident that this was an "MTV production". I've never seen so many cameras in one place.
There was a very good mariachi band playing at the reception.
There was some beautiful traditional dancing...
Less traditional dancing as well. It's MTV after all...
So if you're watching MTV and you see Dinora's quincenera look for the guy dressed in black with the big Nikon around his neck. That's my 5 seconds of fame. ;)

I'm mom! The pictures are beautiful! Dinora is such a deserving child...she is kind, charitable, faithful, dedicated, empathetic, committed and downright fabulous. Happy Birthday baby girl! BTW--The show "Quiero Mis Quinces" will air in the spring on MTV3.
